The calendar year is nearly complete. This amazing 2012 that started, for me, as a Federal employee with few hobbies, and almost no spare time has become one in which I can truly say I have begun to 'Grab the Brass Ring'.
I retired on May 31st, and having already applied for a business licence, I opened my life's dream of a Pottery Studio on June 1st. By June 2nd I realized how much I needed to learn to get this up and running as a profitable business, or at least one I could take a weekly paycheck from.
I have always admired artists, Potters or Clay Artists in particular who actually make a living with their art. This has been and continues to be my intent with Flying V Studio. I am now a Clay Artist and Sole Proprietor of a business and I have much to learn. I have taken so many business classes and workshops now I nearly forgot I was a Potter. I have taken so many phone calls, read so many books, and RSS feeds and self-help advertisements about promoting business on line and the iceberg still looms.
It is now New Year's Eve, hours before 2013 is here and I have much to do in the studio to fulfill my lengthy list of 2012 Resolutions. Not the least of which is clean the studio after the home show & sale 3 weeks ago and inventory glaze components. But alas.
I can be such a procrastinator when there are things I really do not care to do vs. the 1,000 small things I should do but probably aren't so important they can't wait a bit. And so here I sit, writing and balancing my checking account, drawing the Dream Pottery Pieces I will someday make, eating the last of Santa's cookies, entering information on forms for Jurying, sorting docs for tax prep . . . These things never end. And yet I am HAPPY.
I am busy and happy making Pottery and all that goes with it including a new list of Resolutions for the new year. Here comes 2013 and that Brass Ring is still very firmly in my hand. I so hope this New Year is Happy and Blessed for you all and that your Brass Ring is within your reach.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013
